Rory Schlein Belle Vue supporters knew little of Rory before his first doubling up races for the side last summer, but soon took him to their hearts after seeing him battling for points in the Aces cause. Aged 19, with the schoolboy looks that could prove a disadvantage if he ever tried buying cigarettes or alcohol, Schlein is of mature mind and certainly seems to have his career focused in the right direction. He has been an Edinburgh asset the last three years, coming to prominence with Sheffield side in 2001 that took the Conference title. He also helped the senior side at Owlerton win the Premier Trophy that year. In 2002 he completed the Conference campaign just fractionally below an 11-point average. Schlein was born in Darwin on September 1 st 1984. Away from the speedway he is keen on both cricket and Aussie Rules Football. He first ventured into speedway during the mid-eighties, and by 1999 was Aussie Under-16 Champ. His main priority at the moment is to win the World Under-21 crown, last year getting as far as the semi-finals of the competition. He’s already a two-time Australian U-21 winner and currently has a firm grip on that title. His ultimate dream like many a youngster starting out, is to become world speedway champion. Schlein's current day desire of becoming the World Under-21 champion received a major boost in mid-April, with official confirmation that he can take his position in the 2004 competition and still take his doubling up position in the Belle Vue side. It looked for a while that he had a difficult decision to make between one and the other. |
