STEVE Boxall faces a longer trip to Belle Vue in terms of time than any of the boys flying in from Sunday duty in Poland.
The Canterbury-based lad will have to allow best part of six hours for the drive up to home meetings as Belle Vue are, in fact, the furthest track from his Kent home. But that isn't a worry for Boxall who says he doesn't mind going anywhere for a speedway meeting and he did turn down an offer from a track nearer home to step up into the Elite League with the Aces.
He's one of the brightest British prospects in the 20-year-old age group and he feels confident he can progress with the guidance of Jason Crump and Joe Screen. He rode a few meetings at Poole last year with Crump and was impressed with the degree of time and help the great man was prepared to give him.
Boxall's young in Elite League terms but he feels he's ready after a successful Premier League career at Rye House. He started racing in their Conference side in 2002 and moved up into their Premier team in 2004. It has been a story of success all the way for the lad who was a British Schoolboy grasstrack champion back in 1995.
Steve won the Conference Four Team title in 2003 and the Riders' championship two years later. At Premier League level, he won championship medals in 2005 and last season as well as the Premier Trophy in 2005.
Now he's looking for further honours at the top level and will also get the chance to ride a meeting or two in Tarnow, Poland under the partnership between the two clubs.
He started the season with an average of 3.73 and has set himself the target of lifting it to around 5.5 by the end of the campaign. Steve will be helped to achieve that target if he can get to grips with the tricky Belle Vue track and establish a good home average. He feels confident he can do that, especially with Crump and Screen on his side!
